What does "maquila" mean in the textile world?
In the modern textile context, maquila refers to garment production services: a company (the client) provides the design, brand, and sometimes the materials, while the maquila workshop (like Confecciones Roly) contributes the labor, machinery, and know-how to produce the garments.
How does the maquila process work?
The typical textile maquila process follows these stages:
- 1. Consultation and quote: The client presents their design, tech pack, and required quantity. The workshop evaluates complexity and issues a per-unit quote.
- 2. Physical sample: Before mass production, one or more samples are produced to validate cut, seam, finish, and exact measurements.
- 3. Sample approval: The client reviews and approves (or requests adjustments). Production only begins after approval.
- 4. Material sourcing: Necessary materials are acquired — fabrics, threads, zippers, labels — according to the agreement with the client.
- 5. Mass production: Cutting, sewing, embroidery, printing (per design), pressing, and garment-by-garment quality control.
- 6. Packing and delivery: Garments are folded, labeled, and packaged per client requirements for warehouse delivery or export.
What types of maquila do we offer?
At Confecciones Textiles Roly we work with two main modalities:
- Pure maquila (CMT - Cut, Make & Trim): The client provides all fabrics and materials; we only provide labor and machinery.
- Full package: We also handle material procurement, coordinating the entire production process from start to finish.
What is the minimum order quantity for maquila?
This varies by garment type and complexity. At Roly we work from small pilot batches for emerging brands, with full transparency on costs and delivery times. Contact us and we will tell you the minimum for your specific project.
